Privacy Policy

What We Collect

When you join our waitlist, we collect your name, email address, window type, the number of windows you'd like to automate, the smart home platforms you use, and optionally your zip code and any comments you include. We do not collect payment information through the waitlist form.

Reservations & Payments

If you place a reservation (when reservations are open), payment is processed by Stripe; we never receive or store your card number. We store your name, email, the amounts paid, Stripe transaction identifiers, and a reference to the payment method you agreed we may save for the balance charge described in the Terms of Reservation. The card number itself stays with Stripe; we hold only a token that lets us charge that one further payment. Federal communications regulations require us to retain records of each conditional sale for 60 months. Refunds are issued to your original payment method.

How We Use It

We use your email address solely to:

• Send you product launch updates
• Notify you of early access or pre-order availability

We will never sell, rent, or share your email address with third parties for marketing purposes.

Email Collection

We collect email addresses in limited, specific contexts:

• Waitlist signups: when you voluntarily submit your email to join our waitlist. Stored securely in our database and not shared with third parties.
• Access requests: if you request access to private documents, your email is logged so we can follow up.
• Invited document viewers: if you are invited to view confidential documents, your email is used for magic link authentication and to track engagement (see below).

Document Viewer

We share some materials through a separate document viewer at docs.smarter-window.com, by invitation. If you are invited:

• Your email address is used to sign you in without a password.
• We record which documents you open and when, so we know who has seen what.
• Documents are displayed with your email address shown across the page.

These records are visible only to Smarter Window administrators.

Research and Shared Materials

Some materials on this site, such as our research paper, ask you to sign in with your email address before the full version is shown. When you are signed in, we record how you interact with that material: which sections you open, in what order, and how long each section holds your attention. We associate that record with your account, so we can understand which findings readers find useful and follow up with the context you actually read.

This information is kept in our own database. It is not sent to Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics provider, and we do not sell it or disclose it to advertisers. If you are not signed in, your visit is measured only in aggregate and is not associated with you.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors find and use our website. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect usage data such as page views, session duration, and referral sources. We do not send names, email addresses, or other directly identifying information to Google Analytics.

Analytics cookies are only loaded after you provide consent via the cookie banner shown on your first visit. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser cookies.

Cookies and Local Storage

This website uses cookies only for Google Analytics, and only after you consent. We also use your browser's local storage for a few things the site needs in order to work, rather than for advertising: your cookie consent preference, whether you have already seen an introductory animation, and, if you have signed in to read gated material, your sign-in session. None of these are shared with third parties.

Your Rights

You may request removal of your email, and of any reading records associated with it, from our waitlist, research, or document viewer records at any time by emailing open@smarter-window.com. We will delete your data within 30 days of receiving your request.
